our story
Where we come from
Amaha Foundation Uganda (AFU) was founded by Reverend Kule Joram, a clergyman in the Diocese of South Rwenzori, Kasese, a man who knows firsthand what it means to lose hope and what it means to find it again.
The name “Amaha” is not accidental. In the local language, Amaha means hope. It is the one thing that was nearly taken from Rev. Joram as a nine-year-old boy abducted by ADF rebels into the bush of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Five months later, he escaped. But the girls and children he left behind and the ones he returned to find in his community were not so fortunate.
Many had become orphans. Others had been trafficked, abused, or married off against their will. Young girls who had dreamed of becoming doctors and teachers were instead trading their safety for a sanitary pad or a meal. It was a crisis hidden in plain sight — and Rev. Joram could not look away.
He founded Amaha Foundation Uganda to be the answer he wished had existed for the children of his community.
Today, AFU is a registered non-profit serving over 64 young girls from multiple villages across Kasese District, with programmes spanning education, social protection, health, gender advocacy, arts, environmental stewardship, and emergency relief. We welcome girls from all faith backgrounds; Anglican, Catholic, Full Gospel, Baptist and Muslim, because hope belongs to everyone.
We are small. We are growing. And we refuse to stop until every girl in the Rwenzori region knows that her future is worth something.

Rooted in God. Open to All.
Amaha Foundation Uganda is a faith-based organisation, grounded in the teachings of Jesus Christ and the belief that every human being — regardless of gender, background, or circumstance — is made in the image of God and deserves to be treated as such.
We offer worship opportunities, Christian education, and spiritual formation as part of our holistic approach. Girls are encouraged to join choirs, participate in Sunday services, read scripture, and discover their identity in Christ — not as a requirement for support, but as an invitation to life in its fullness.
At the same time, we serve girls from every faith community without discrimination. The love of God is not exclusive — and neither is ours.

"There is hope, and there is a way out. We share the love of God with these young women to show them the hope of glory, to speak life and light into the darkness of their situation."

Every girl we support started as a stranger’s act of faith. Will you be the reason one more girl goes back to school?
