A Holistic Approach to Changing a Girl's Life

We have learned that you cannot educate a hungry girl. You cannot empower a traumatised child. You cannot build a future on a broken foundation. That is why Amaha Foundation Uganda addresses every dimension of a young woman’s life — physical, emotional, spiritual, economic, and social — at the same time.

  • Education and Capacity building

We are committed to educating the girl child. The education of girl children transforms communities around the world. Girls in school are less likely to marry young and more likely to lead healthy, productive lives, earn higher incomes, participate in the decisions that most affect them, and build better futures for themselves and their families as well. They are also positioned to challenge unhealthy primitive cultural and traditional practices that have for a long time affected women in the society. Females are strengthened by education and inequality is kicked away forever and they fulfil their potential. There is power in educating girls. “If we are going to see real development in the world then our best investment is WOMEN!” ~Desmond Tutu. “You know, we’re in a sports center. Imagine if you have a team and you don’t let half of the team play. That’s stupid. That makes no sense. And the evidence shows that communities that give their daughters the same opportunities as their sons, they are more peaceful, they are more prosperous, they develop faster, they are more likely to succeed.” ~ Barack Obama. Partner with us to educate suffering and vulnerable girls. With the resources available, we are able to pay their full fees and tuition. We have pupils in primary school, students at college and University. We need to support more in order to break the cycle of poverty in western Uganda and around the world.

  • Social Protection

Girls in this part of the world need to be socially protected as for a long time, they have been marginalized, treated as property, and considered invaluable. Therefore, we work to shield girls from economic shocks, gender-based violence, exploitation, and systemic inequalities to ensure that they enjoy their rights. Measures, policies, and systems have been put in place to prevent and respond to violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation affecting girl children. We guarantee a child's fundamental right to safety, well-being, and a stable environment. There is power in educating girls. “If we are going to see real development in the world then our best investment is WOMEN!” ~Desmond Tutu. “You know, we’re in a sports center. • Relief Services to the suffering

In crisis situations, we quickly provide relief to the victims. Our emergency response team is always alert and ready to respond anytime. Annually, our community suffers from natural disasters and terrorist attacks. These destroy lives, property and displace many people. In such times, we respond by providing psycho-social services, food, clothes, shelter, medication to the sick and casualties and other immediate basic needs as they may be required. More so, we also provide relief to poor families in the community whenever resources allow. We make sure widows, orphans and people with disabilities feel loved and cared for and about. They have to smile too. Like Job 29:13-16, “……. And I made the widow's heart sing for joy.” This work is effectively done in consultation with the local authorities. There is power in educating girls. “If we are going to see real development in the world then our best investment is WOMEN!” ~Desmond Tutu. “You know, we’re in a sports center. • Preaching the gospel of Christ.

We ensure that the gospel of Jesus Christ reaches children and youth in Kasese district. We take care of both the physical and spiritual needs of the children and youths. We conduct children and youth fellowships, conferences, and supply copies of bibles to those who cannot afford a bible so they can read and study the word themselves. As a result, we have had a large number of children and youth saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. The gospel is being preached in the Kasese area; in displacement camps, trading centers, schools and colleges of our land. Your support and partnership will enable us reach more people with the gospel.

  • Health and Sanitation.

According to the latest WASH-related burden of disease estimates, 1.4 million people die each year as a result of inadequate drinking-water, sanitation and hygiene. The vast majority of these deaths are in low- and middle-income countries. Unsafe sanitation accounts for 564 000 of these deaths, largely from diarrheal disease, and it is a major factor in several neglected tropical diseases, including intestinal worms, schistosomiasis and trachoma. Poor sanitation also contributes to malnutrition. We work to prevent some of these diseases by ensuring sanitation and hygiene in our community and among individuals. We sensitize the community and create awareness. We encourage people to boil water, construct latrines and ensure their cleanliness, clean their environment, sleep under mosquito nets and ensure food security. We also conduct community outreaches aimed at cleaning and collecting garbage. We ensure that girls get access to healthcare and are educated on hygiene, menstrual health and wellbeing. In our fight for good health and sanitation, when resources allow, we help sick people to access health care services and have their health conditions dealt with. We have also helped others get operated on such as Natugonza Maurine to have her neurosurgery done at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. Also, Masika Grace Maate whose uterus was removed was helped by our Foundation. We thank God they are doing well now.

  • Gender Equality and advocacy.

Our Bakonzo and most of the African tradition and culture underrate women. Women are marginalized and treated poorly. In Africa, people prefer having many male children; no one wants to have a female child. the female gender is looked at as great loss and so female children would belong to the mother whereas males belonged to the father. Women remain excluded in almost everything as they are looked at as the cause of every problem in the society. They are expected to be soft spoken, may attend but not speak in a meeting, submissive and obedient and humbled to the dust, not eat certain foods that are meant for men only, and are disrespected for giving birth to females, among others. And no woman was expected to make sexual decisions as such decisions were solely made by the husband. More so, girls were and are still sold off in marriage regardless of age. They are treated as property that would bring in wealth since bride wealth is paid. Parents would rather support the male child in education and other aspects of life compared to females. Presently in some African countries, women do not hold higher positions and better jobs due to their gender. No one understands that a woman if given chance can succeed in many activities just like the man. Our Foundation is working for all individuals, regardless of their gender, to have equal rights, access to resources, opportunities, and protections. We make sure that an individual's life choices and chances are not limited or defined by their sex assigned at birth. We are rising the status of women in this part of the world so that they can fully participate in their well- being and that of their community. We advocate for the girls in situations of early marriages, sexual abuse and harassment, rights to quality education, health, participation and among others. We have also had time to talk to conservative traditional parents about the value of supporting girl children. We have succeeded in these endeavors. We are also taking care of girls who were disowned by their parents for refusing to marry as early as 13 due to pressure from parents.

  • Environmental Conservation.

We are also actively and strongly protecting, preserving, and managing natural resources in order to balance human needs with ecological sustainability. Amaha Foundation works so hard to fight practices that will destroy our world. As we deal with other social problems, we are also concerned with preserving forests, water, and wildlife. The earth is a gift to us from God and therefore, we need to take care of it as He gave us the authority to rule over every creation. We teach young people to care for the environment and their natural surroundings because protecting the environment means protecting the future of every child we serve. We encourage our beneficiaries both direct and indirect and other people in the community of Kasese to actively combat deforestation by planting trees. Through our strategic partnerships and community involvement, we believe that our work and efforts will certainly expand to have more people engage with tree planting for the promotion of biodiversity and mitigating climate change. We make campaigns and sensitize the community about the dangers of deforestation, water degradation, and use of plastics.
